Profile of Educator: Buz Walker

Born in the USA, Buz Walker is a visual artist with a degree from Chicago’s American Academy of Art. He was a graphic designer & illustrator for 21 years in California. Since 1995, Buz has lived in Southeast Asia where he has worked as a designer/illustrator in Indonesia and Singapore, and as an art & design lecturer at private art colleges in Malaysia.

Buz is active with Singapore figure drawing groups, and has shown his art in local fine art gallery exhibitions.

Workshop Outline:
Participants will be introduced to

  • A brief introduction to drawing and observation
  • Intro to creating tonal values and shading
  • Drawing a still life setting in the classroom

Workshop Content:
Session:
The objective of this workshop is to give the students/attendees an introduction to the importance of drawing as a form of visual communication, to understand about creating shading & tonal values, and then to put these to practice, by creating a drawing from still life objects arranged in a studio setting.

Material Requirements:
Each participant will be required to bring the following for the workshop:

  • Their own sketch paper, drawing pencils and erasers

Profile of Educator: Rosah Lopes

Rosah Lopes comes to us from Canada. She has an extensive background in Education, from Brazil to Italy and then studying Interior Design in Canada she has been in Singapore since 1995. Ms. Lopes has also been teaching and involve in many aspect of Arts, from Painting, sculpture and journalistic assignments.

Workshop Outline:
Participants will be introduced to basic principles of Interior design, materials selection and also sample board.

Workshop Content:
Session:

  • Introduction to Interior Design
  • Examples of work
  • Project handout
  • Introduction to materials and techniques
  • Group discussion/generation of ideas
  • Interior perspective (basic rendering)
  • Finalization of ideas

Material Requirements:
Each participant will be required to bring the following for the workshop:

  • Colour Markers or/ and colour pencils
  • 2 (two) A2 size (420 x 594 mm -- 16.5 x 23.4 in) cardboards
  • Scissors
  • Used magazines
  • Selection of drawing tools (HB pencils, black fine marker pens, coloured marker pens, eraser etc.)

Profile of Educator: Jojo Puah

Jojo Puah, head of the Interactive Media Design department of Raffles Design Institute to join her in a  Well-versed in web and interactive applications, she has years of experience in illustrating artwork as part of her design projects. She now teaches illustrations as well as web-based subjects for the Interactive media students.

Workshop Outline:
Participants will be introduced to an overview of the use of Wacom tablet, how fluent it is to draw digitally with it.

Workshop Content:
Session:

  • Introduction to Digital Illustration
  • 2-hr session of exploring the possibilities of digital illustrations.
  • To outline and trace a real image using the digital pen of the Wacom tablet
  • Introduction to materials and techniques
  • Illustrating the visual in a fluid and smooth manner as a digital artist Interior perspective (basic rendering)

Material Requirements:
All equipments are provided, including tablets and computers.

..Workshop: "Jewellery  Design" - Acrylic Bending
 

Date: 11th October 2008 (Saturday)
Time: 10am - 2pm

Profile of Educator: Ms Sandra Fie

With 10 years of working experience in the Jewelry industry, Sandra majored in Gold & Silversmithing for her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University. Prior to teaching, Sandra worked with Larry Jewelry, one of the established jeweler in Singapore, and responsible for designing, production, quality control and window display. While with Larry Jewelry, Sandra also has the opportunity to attend the Basel Jewelry exhibition in Switzerland and the Hong Kong Jewelry Fair. In addition, she was involved in the organisation of the annual Rotary Jewelry Design Competition, spearheaded by the Rotary of the Singapore East and Larry Jewelry, to identify future jewelry designers.

Workshop Outline:
Participants will be introduced to acrylic and it’s varying ways of being manipulated into basic ‘ring / pendant shapes.

At the end of the workshop, each participant will produce jewellery fabricated from acrylic.

..Workshop: "Glass Slumping"
 

Date: 18th October 2008 (Saturday)
Time: 10am – 6pm
Course Fee: S$53.50 per participant (inclusive of 7% GST)

Profile of Educator: Ms Julie Ross
Julie Ross graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1989 – where she proceeded to run her own Architectural Glass Design practice for seven years in Scotland. With a Masters’ in Glass, Julie was a part-time lecturer in the Department of Product Design at the University of Nairobi. On her return to Singapore, she pursued her career as an independent Glass maker and Consultant and also as a part-time Lecturer at NUS Centre for the Arts.

Workshop Outline:
Participants will be introduced to the material of glass and it’s possibilities as a creative medium through the process of ‘glass fusing’

Each participant will have produced two to three glass ‘pendants’, by the end of the workshop

Profile of Educator: Mr. Lucas Burrows
Born in Manchester, England, Lucas is a three-dimensional product designer. He joined Raffles Design Institute in 2005 when he moved from the United Kingdom to Singapore. He studied Industrial Product design at England’s Coventry University design school of art and design where he attained his Bachelors of Science Degree.

During his professional career, he has worked for various product design consultancies such as Geo, LockOne LTD and Wilstead Digital in the United Kingdom.

Workshop Outline:
Participants will be introduced to Transportation design and also model making using blue foam.

Each participant will have produced their own design for a vehicle and also a scaled model by the end of the workshop

Workshop Content:
Morning Session:

  • Introduction to Transport Design

..Workshop: "Furniture Design"
 

Date: 01st Nov 2008 (Saturday)
Time: 10am – 2pm
Course Fee: S$26.75 per participant (inclusive of 7% GST)

Profile of Educator: Mr. Eric Lim
Apart from Product Design related knowledge, Eric also has expertise in Interior and Graphic Design from his past working experiences. He has been involved in numerous freelance projects for a variety of clients such as Nokia, Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Motorola Electronics. Eric has a keen interest in model making and during his free time, creates 3D models as part of his collection.

Workshop Outline:
Participants will be introduced to contemporary Furniture design and also model making using balsa wood.

Each participant will have produced their own design for a chair and also a scaled model by the end of the workshop

Workshop Content:
