Infinity - Graduation Exhibition and Fashion Showcase
19 June – 22 June 2008

Raffles Design Institute (Singapore) celebrated the graduation of the June 2008 cohort with Infinity - the graduation exhibition and fashion showcase of Raffles Designers! “Infinity” offers an innovative insight into this constantly changing world of Design, from Fashion to Jewellery, Interactive Media to Visual Communication, and Interior Design to Product Design.

Inspired from the Latin word “infinitas”, “Infinity” encapsulates the images that immediately imprint themselves on our memories; startlingly new, transporting and palpable.  They are so fully realized and dimensional that you can almost feel the breath of the air on your skin or smell the rain, as if you were physically there.

This impressively imagined world is born of the infinite dreams of our young designers, awaiting the complete realization of their concepts and ideas, waiting for the right moment to place the correct piece into play, to create and to inspire, to reach the point where it all translates into the visual vocabulary of design.  This moment is a glimpse of Infinity, the never ending process of evolution and
re-invention.

The celebration began the official opening of exhibition to our industry partners, followed by a four-day exhibition open to the public at the state-of-the-art National Library Singapore. The event culminated to a climax when the Graduation Ceremony and Fashion Shows were held at the grand Ritz Carlton, The Millenia Singapore Hotel on 20 June 2008.

The fashion show reached a climax when winners for the Advanced Diploma in Fashion Design Best Collection Awards were about to be announced. The Advanced Diploma in Fashion Design students’ collections were judged for their designs, creativity and workmanship. Sitting among the distinguished panel of judges were
Mr Daniel Boey (Show Producer of Daniel Boey Productions), Mr Luke Elijah Lim (owner of To-a-Tee and 1st Recipient of “Moët and Chandon Fresh Fashion Stylist of the Year” Award 2004) and Ms Tee Hun Ching (Editor, URBAN – The Straits Times).

Winner:Vicky Zhu with Prof Giuseppe (Joe) Spinelli

2nd-prize: Tony Wang Hu with Prof Spinelli
Best Collection Award First prize went to Vicky Zhu, followed by Tony Wang Hu and Ada Yeong in second and third places respectively.
3rd-prize: Ada Yeong Yuan Ting with Prof Spinelli

The decision was unanimous – Vicky Zhu’s on-trend and wearable menswear designs looked just as good onstage as it did off. At 17 and the youngest of the lot, she showed a maturity of thought and skill in her works that seems at odds with her bubbly, child-like demeanour… … She is likely the sort of new blood River Island would have snapped up had we been in London.” Ms Tee Hun Ching

Besides grooming young talents, Raffles Design Institute also works closely with industry partners to place our graduates in their companies. Serving as a springboard to greater success, Raffles Design Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Abyzz to launch a 6-month Mentorship programme with Fashion Designer, Desmond YANG.

The recipient of this award will be mentored by Desmond to develop a fashion collection to be sold at his flagship store at Millenia Walk.

The recipient of inaugural Mentorship Award went to Ms Afton CHEN Sihan and she is also representing Singapore to compete in the Triumph International Award 2008 in Beijing!

Congratulations to award winners and all graduates for the fantastic performance. The School wishes all the graduates the best in their future endeavours. To all guests, we hope you have enjoyed the night. Thank you for your kind attendance and we look forward to seeing you in our December 2008 Graduation Exhibition and Fashion Showcase!
