Jann Chong, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Multimedia Design graduate has recently returned from the official screening of “Strings” at the prestigious Berlin Asia Pacific Film Festival, an event which arguably showcases the best cinematic creations from the Asia Pacific region. This year, 93 films from 25 countries were selected to be screened during this event.

“Strings” has had a fabulous run, winning the Grand Prize (Media Students Category) for Best Direction and Audience Choice Award at the Canon DMH Digital Video Festival. This film has also been earmarked for more support under the Singapore Film Commission and a feature-length script is currently being actualized under the Script Development Programme.

“Filmmaking might be a young industry but from this festival, I felt that there was an avenue for Singapore films... I am pretty positive that the Singapore film industry will make its signature, if it hasn’t already.”

She also clinched a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to tour Jackie Chan’s “Emperor” movie set in Guangzhou (China), guided by the superstar himself, where she found herself in an array of filming wonders. From location sets, props making to camera shooting and lighting techniques, Jackie gave her invaluable advice on filming and shooting techniques. Describing this experience as “refreshing and inspirational”, we look forward to seeing more work from Jann, as this young and talented filmmaker moulds the future of the Singapore arts scene.

Currently, Jann is a Producer with Digital Grain. She does video productions with the company. Besides, Jann is also a freelance designer where she does video production, art direction and advertising.
