The Awards night of 28 August 2009 was an especially memorable moment for student Metta Setiandi. Participating for the second year running with her photography entry “One Day with Uncle Jin”, Metta managed to impress the judges this time and won Bronze. It was, however, not her only win for the night. Her first attempt at film – a documentary on her subject “Uncle Jin” – beat all other contestants and nabbed Gold Award. The documentary depicted a single man whom she dearly called Uncle Jin and pictured his daily life as a bus driver. The black and white documentary film showcased Metta’s unique style in filming, capturing Uncle Jin’s sorrow and agony, yet at the same time celebrating his self-fulfilling life.
Silver Award winners Peter, Rita and Gery took on a different entry, taking mundane typography to new heights. Titled “Connection”, their self-designed typography won the judges’ applause. It was also their “Connection” concept that outshone all other classmates to be the School’s Graduation Theme for the book, invitation cards, posters and tickets. |
